The news that surprised many was that Brock Lesnar signed a new contract with WWE prior to Wrestlemania 34 in New Orleans. Everything was arranged at go-home RAW held in Atlanta one week before the greatest show of them all. It is interesting that this is an entirely new contract and not an extension of the existing one.
This was held in secrecy as very few people knew that there are ongoing negotiations between WWE and Brock Lesnar. Majority of the fans believed that Roman Reigns is going to win the main event of WM and bring home the title. The match was scripted that way that Reigns would be coming of the ropes to Lesnar’s F5 but that he would manage to counter it with a Spear and pin down The Beast Incarnate. They changed this in the last moment and had Lesnar finish the duel with an F5. Roman was pinned, and Lesnar walked away with the title. The plan was executed perfectly, and no one went off script.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the contract is not a full-time, but it’s also not listed as a one-match deal. It ends before SummerSlam in August, and during its duration, Lesnar is free to arrange a UFC fight, but not to execute it before the end of his new WWE contract.
Another thing is money. Brock allegedly got a pay-rise. His previous contract guaranteed him $12 million for one year period. The details of his new deal weren’t disclosed.
The next appearance for him is set for Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia where he’s going to defend his title against Roman Reigns. There will probably be more matches until August, but not even one is officially set for now. The possibility of a new contract after this one expires is also a likely scenario.
While no one knew that the script for WM was altered, Brock Lesnar’s agent Paul Heyman was aware of changes. He also signed a new short-term deal with the company.
