The fans are patiently waiting for Season 2 of the popular show Yuri On Ice, but so far the creators of the show didn’t say anything about the new season. However, there are speculations about the sequel, and the opinions are divided – some people say it will air in the same month Season 1 was released, which was in October, while some believe it could come even later. To be honest, we are not sure whether there will be another season at all.
Should there be another season?
Numerous anime series have never continued after Season 1 was aired and the reasons are different. Because of this fact, so many people who watched this one are waiting for the official confirmation, and they don’t want to keep their hopes high. The Season 1 Episode 12 provided a very good closure, which is another reason why this series may not continue at all.
Yuri On Ice is the original anime, which means that it is not based on a story from a novel or a manga and this makes the series specific. Also, because of this, we are not sure whether Yuri and other characters have more stories to tell. This anime only had 12 episodes, and it appears that the fans loved the show, so now, it is up to the developers of the series to decide whether it is profitable to create another season or not.
Yuri On Ice received the Anime of the Year award in Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards on January 28. There were some other anime series that were nominated such as My Hero Academia, ERASED, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Re:Zero, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, Mob Psycho 100 and Joker Game, but Yuri On Ice received 44 percent of the votes.
This anime has also earned several other awards before the event on January 28. Some of these include Best Boy for Yuri Katsuki with 58 percent of votes, Best Animation with 49 percent of votes and Best Opening and Best Ending with 57 and 56 percent of votes respectively. The popular anime series also received awards like the Most Heartwarming Scene for “The Kiss” with 55 percent of votes and Best Couple for Yuri and Victor with fascinating 69 percent of votes.
We believe that all of the awards tell us how good Yuri On Ice actually is and that it definitely deserves to enter the Season 2. This anime could go on for ages, but the creators would have to keep the quality on the highest level and come up with more stories for Yuri and the gang.
Season 2 – Real Chances
We have concluded that there definitely should be a sequel, but realistically speaking, will there be any? Is the MAPPA studio interested in producing Yuri On Ice Season 2? Kubo Mitsurou was interviewed two months ago by the Inquisitr and here is what he had to say:
“For the rest of this year I’ll be pouring all my energy into Yuri!!! on ICE, but I do plan on cheering for the matches on tv and online!! I have a lot of plans in the works with the director for next year… including the wish to create a sequel. So I’m doing my best and working hard for that reason!!”
Taking this statement into consideration, Season 2 may already be in the works, but the fans still don’t have the official confirmation which really worries everyone, and we can only hope that the Season 2 will be out by the end of the year.
Yuri On Ice Season 2 Release Date
According to the rumors, Yuri On Ice Season 2 will premiere in October this year, but this may only be the optimistic thinking of the fans. It is not that easy to create a dozen episodes of good quality in just several months. Be that as it may, we hope that the new season will be released before the end of the year, but until then we are waiting for the official announcement.
