The Tokyo Motor Show begins later this month, and we have so many cars to look forward to. One of the models that we cannot wait to see is the concept vehicle from Yamaha Motor Co. The company has been famous for the motorcycle, and powersports vehicle production and the car that will be presented in Japan will be an “automobile design concept.”
Will it be a follow-up to 2015’s Sports Ride concept? That sports car concept featured two seats, and it was based on the iStream underpinnings. The designer of the McLaren F1 Gordon Murray was responsible for the Sports ride concept and thanks to the extensive carbon fiber use, the cost of the car has been significantly cut.
For the iStream platform, the lightweight and high-strength chassis was used, and it could accommodate several body styles, in case you connected different composite panels to the frame. Because of the advanced tech utilized for the car assembly, the Sports Ride concept had only 1,650 pounds and was slightly longer than the famous Lotus Exige.
We don’t know which engine will be used for this vehicle that is going to debut in Tokyo, but a tuned version of the turbocharged 1.0-liter 3-cylinder unit which powered the Yamaha Motiv concept is expected reported Autocar. So far, Yamaha based its concepts on the same iStream platform which will be used for the new model as well.
However, that is not all from the Japanese company. We expect to see the upgraded variant of the motorcycle-riding robot, a futuristic motorcycle prototype, and a four-wheeled electric mobility concept as well. It looks as if Yamaha really wants to steal the spotlight in Japan’s capital.
