Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has acquired Ptch, a video creation app to enhance its photo and video platform technology. Ptch stated through a blog post that it will close the operations on January 2. Ed Leonard and Hans Ku are the founders of Ptch, and the start-up was looked after by motion picture studio DreamWorks Animation.
The mobile app from the company allows users to click photos or shoot videos and transform them into “beautiful shareable movies.”
Ptch to shutdown
In its blog post, Ptch announced that users can download the app from the official website before January 2 or save them to their phones camera roll because all the files will be deleted after few weeks.
The blog post read that the company was started just a year ago, and the founders envisioned providing the best service to the users and allowing them share beautiful movies made from the photos and videos on smartphones. The team mentioned that the company is excited that it will join Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), and as a part of Yahoo’s team it could focus on efforts and leverage technology to make internet firm’s photo and video platforms the best in the world.
Within the post, the company also instructed users on how to save the ptchs. Towards the end of the blog, the team thanked everyone for being connected as a user and fan, and applauded the support. The company said that it will look forward to provide users with more exciting products, in the future.
How Yahoo plans to use Ptch?
Yahoo has not yet revealed that how it plans to utilize Ptch‘s technology, but there are possibilities that the technology will be integrated into Flickr mobile app to create more interesting media content. Flickr has been a prime service from Yahoo for photo sharing and storage, but the company is looking forward to make the service more competitive through innovation. Last month, Flickr came up with a service that allows the user to convert their photos into a hardcover album.
Prior to Ptch, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has made other acquisitions of video apps firms like Qwiki, Jumpcut and others, and it will be worth watching how the company integrates Ptch with these apps.
