It is always the right time to talk about WrestleMania. Seth Rollins is going to face Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam on Sunday. However, during one interview, two names were mention to The Kingslayer: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Roman Reigns.
However, the names were not just mentioned innocently. According to the rumors, these two wrestlers (one of them is an actor – guess who?) is going to face off at WWE’s biggest show in a calendar year and will be the main match. Rollins was not thrilled with that, but he gave a great answer.
Sports Illustrated asked him: “There’s a rumor that at WrestleMania, it’s going to be Roman Reigns vs. The Rock. When you hear that, what’s the first thing that pops into your head?” And he said: “I’d like it to be Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins.”
Then the interviewer suggested him fighting The Rock, and Rollins answered: “That’s cool, too. Don’t get me wrong. I love Rocky. I think he’s great. Love everything he’s done for this business. But my gut, my first instinct, says we don’t need him. We don’t need him. If we’re not the guys who can main event WrestleMania, then how are we ever gonna be The Rock? How are we gonna be Stone Cold Steve Austin? We can’t hold onto these guys forever. We just can’t. To me, let’s do Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns before we do Seth Rollins-The Rock. That’s me.”
And he is 100% right. Recent WrestleMania events – last seven to be precise – have featured part-time wrestlers such as Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Triple H, Batista and The Rock. And if WWE wants to build stars such as these, they need to give the opportunity to those who are currently in the business and forget about these names of the past.
