Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) may have had plans of coming with a ‘Dislike’ button earlier, but there are possibilities that the company may come up with something like a ‘LOL’ button for the News feed, says a report from Digital Trends.
Not all the stuff on Facebook is likeable, and at times can cause disappointment or disgust. However, there is no way of expressing the dislike for such stuff that was injected into the news feed of users. But, now, Facebook may be planning a new feature that will help people do so, but in a manner that would not affect the sentiment of the user.
‘Like’ button not for all emotions
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) was considering introducing a ‘Dislike’ button, but the idea has been dropped by the company as informed by the founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg at a recent public Q&A session. The session was live-streamed and the first question that the CEO had to face was about the addition of a ‘Dislike’ button. He informed that the company was considering it once, but they had to let go the idea because they felt that was wrong.
Zuckerberg said that having a ‘Like’ button was a good thing to do because it helped users express their liking, happiness and joy which were all positive emotions and sentiments, but the ‘Dislike’ button had a negative message to convey which was, ‘That thing isn’t good.’ Zuckerberg says, “That’s not something that we think is good for the world. So we’re not going to build that.”
Facebook still searching?
Zuckerberg disapproves the idea of developing a voting mechanism that will judge the quality of a post. He said that through Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) people share the valuable moments of their life with the people who matter to them the most, and adding a ‘Dislike’ button would reduce the social value of platform.
Facebook CEO added that the same platform is used for sharing sad news and unpleasant experiences as well, and the ‘Like’ button is of no use in such situations. He, further, told that they internally had a lot of discussion over making the expression of grief and other broader range of emotions possible.
So, from Zuckerberg’s comment we might get an idea that Facebook is still open to suggestions, and therefore we might soon see an ‘Amaze’ or a ‘LOL’ button for various emotions.
