Dwayne Johnson had perhaps one of the best cinematic moment that defined his career. Millions of people watched him in the role of Luke Hobbs in the Furious 7 on April 3, 2015. As the climax of the movie approaches, the Rock is in the hospital as he sits next to his daughter when an explosion in the distance happens. In the following moment, he says: “Daddy’s gotta go to work.”
Then, he drives an ambulance and races into the heart of the action and after a series of dangerous events we are led to believe that The Rock is dead. However, that can never happen, of course, as he emerges from the debris, with a minigun, and he takes on the attack helicopter in single combat. After that he and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) exchange the following words:
Letty: You bring the cavalry?
Hobbs: Woman, I am the cavalry!
Dwayne Johnson is the highest-paid actor alive, he is the world’s most handsome man, and he might even run for president. The latest movie he starred in, The Fate of the Furious, grossed enormous sums of money is a short period of time, and soon, we will have a chance to watch the remake of the popular TV series called Baywatch.
He also owns the production company called Seven Bucks Productions, and if you didn’t know, that was the amount of money Johnson had at the beginning of his entertainment career. Furthermore, Johnson is popular on social media with about 100 million more followers than President Donald Trump. This guy is perhaps the world’s biggest celebrity, or he will be one soon.
Let’s take a look at Johnson’s track record. He was supposed to be a football star, but he couldn’t reach stardom and suffered several injuries – enough to be overlooked by the NFL. So, he boarded the wrestling ship. It was his father and grandfather’s career, but despite his family was well-known, it took years for The Rock to succeed. Once he was at the top, the people loved him. They loved his “people’s eyebrow” and many other of his gimmicks.
While he was in the WWE, he dreamed of Hollywood. But once again, it took some time to progress, and he initially played in both good and bad movies, but he studied the craft. He joined an already-successful Fast and Furious franchise which helped him earn a lot of money. The fourth one grossed $363 million while the fifth reached $626 million. The sixth and seventh made $788 million and $1.5 billion respectively, but don’t get us started on the eighth film.
He also played in the disaster movie San Andreas, action comedy Central Intelligence and Disney’s Moana, all three movies grossing about $1.3 billion together. The Baywatch is next, and it will be a huge success.
Why should we care though?
Well, you should because Dwayne Johnson is becoming a man of influence. And the great thing about all this is that he is using his status the right way. Usually, a lot of celebrities are politically active, and they either say this or that which really no-one expects them to say. Not that they shouldn’t care about the politics, but most of them are doing it the wrong way.
Dwayne Johnson is here to entertain the masses. We are talking about sheer fun, without hidden messages or large truths, conspiracy theories and what not. On the other hand, Johnson is a patriot, and he loves his country, a love which he often displays. And most importantly, he loves his fans. He would do anything for that army of supporters that he has – take a photo, sign an autograph, send a video, as long as his fans are satisfied.
Moreover, The Rock hosted a “Rock the Troops” event at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in front of 50,000 service members and veterans. Rarely will you see this stand up man in a scandal, but he uses his status and popularity to promote work ethics and true values which have been lost lately.
Recently, there has been a talk about Dwayne Johnson running for president and even the Washington Post published an article last year to which The Rock responded: “I care DEEPLY about our county [sic] . . . and the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring. Buuuuut until that possible day, the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country.
