Congratulations, you’re getting married! Being a bride-to-be is an exciting time, and one of the best parts of a wedding is the bride’s outfit. Whether that’s a white dress, a pantsuit or something else, start shopping a year in advance to get the look just right.
Start Planning Your Budget
There is no time that is too early to start looking for a dress but depending on how detailed you want your dress will change how soon you should purchase it. Even online purchases can take months to make and ship, and that is before you think about any fittings and alterations. A year is generally considered an acceptable amount of time to start looking for a dress.
This is when you will start outlining your overall budget and seeing where to make the biggest expenditures. Figure out your dress budget and what sort of dress will make you feel comfortable and like a superstar on your wedding day.
Trying On Your Dress
When you try on a dress, have an idea of what shoes, underwear and accessories you might wear on the big day. Bring a few options with you and a few trusted friends or family members who can support you, be honest but, most of all, be kind and give you the freedom to fall in love with a look.
This is a key stage in the process as this will determine the final fit of the dress. If you have a specific vision such as a long train, a complicated dress such as one that needs embellishments or beadwork, or you need a plus size wedding dress, then this should be done at least 8 months before the wedding.
Getting an accurate measurement of your body is essential.
Find someone else who can help you measure your body, whether that be an in-store tailor or a friend at home, get these measurements right. Buying online does not need to be risky if you know your measurements and double-check them with the sizes.
Settling On Accessories
Now that you have seen the dress and it is being made, this is the time to nail the accessories. Don’t take the tags off your purchases and keep the receipts! A special box is perfect for keeping these receipts so you don’t lose track of them.
Think about the height of your shoes and wear them indoors to check if you can dance all night long. Practise your hairdo and select jewellery that compliments the theme of the dress and your natural features.
When choosing your wedding gown, consider how your jewelry will complement it. You don’t want your jewelry to compete with or overpower your outfit. Sweetheart necklines lend themselves to delicate jewelry, such as necklaces, earrings, and diamond bracelet.
Also, everyone likes the idea of spanx underwear, but make sure that they are comfortable for you before wearing them on your wedding day for the first time.
Another fun task is deciding on the first dance song. The style of your dress might change the sort of song you dance to. A se*y silhouette might be better suited for something upbeat whereas a full tulle skirt looks elegant twirling around to something more romantic. Picking Up Your Dress
Your dress should ideally be ready three weeks before the wedding date. You might be tempted to take it out at home and try it on, but try to resist until the big day. If you really need to check the fit (or just want to practise) then ask a bridesmaid or friend to help you. That way, you can avoid any rips or accidents from putting it on yourself.
Otherwise, tuck your dress somewhere safe and spacious so it doesn’t get crushed and keep it in its protective fabric. At this stage, you will have an idea of where everyone will be on the wedding day, so figure out which car it will travel in. Preferably one with no food or flowers and where you can lay the dress flat.
