The new feature that WhatsApp has introduced will certainly scare the competition. Namely, the users will have video calling as an option. There are more than one billion WhatsApp users who will have access to this option. WhatsApp rolled out the update on Tuesday after it has been developed for months.
Skype or Apple’s Facetime may find this as a slap in the face, as the Facebook-owned company obviously wants to be the best app for communications. We could saw a statement posted on the blog which says that users of Android, Windows Phone and iPhone will have access to video calling very soon.
There will be a picture-in-picture feed, so not only will you be able to see the person you are speaking to, but you will also see yourself. As it is written is the statement: “Today we’re excited to announce the next step in our efforts to connect people – WhatsApp video calling.”
In this blog, we could also read: “We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough. There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks.”
There is no doubt that video calling will improve WhatsApp and attract even more users. We will test this option as soon as we get a new version of the application so stay tuned.
