9Protests regarding national anthem
Second in line as the most interesting topic in 2017 is the story regarding the national anthem protest. There was a lot written about this, and the controversy surrounded the actions of protesting players nearly the entire season. As far as Cowboys are considered, they all, as a team, right beside the owner Jerry Jones and the coaching staff all knelt down just before the national anthem and stood with interlocked arms prior to Monday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals in September. On that occasion, Jerry stated that “I’ve never been prouder of my association with players and a coaching staff as I am with this crew. We all agreed that our players wanted to make a statement about unity and equality.” After that game, sometime in October Jones also stated that anyone who is “disrespectful to the flag” will not be playing, but it seems that punishment Jones was talking about wasn’t meant for defensive linemen David Irving and now ex-Cowboy Damontre Moore who both raised their fists as the anthem finished before few games during the season.
