Another round has gone by and now it’s the time for us to turn to the week six of the 2016 NFL Season. Last week was more than interesting with many good games and a few unexpected results. This one will be no different with some of the match-ups being real gems.
Let us point out that Cowboys and Falcons which recorded big wins last week are not coming as favorites in this one. Their wins against the Bengals and Broncos respectively won’t mean much against Seahawks and Packers. Other big matches coming up are Bengals vs. Patriots, Eagles vs. Redskins, and Chiefs vs. Raiders just to name few. Let us now take a look at picks and predictions for all 15 duels scheduled for this week.
Week six picks and predictions
Broncos vs. Chargers
As things stand now the only thing that doesn’t point in the direction of Broncos win is the injury status of their starting QB Trevor Siemian. Paxton Lynch could be in for his second straight start, and that could be crucial if Chargers are to resolve this duel in their favor. Other facts point to easy Broncos win. They are a better team, defensively far superior and are playing San Diego Chargers who lost from far worst teams than Broncos are, this season.
They are also on a ten straight losses when playing their divisional rivals. Additionally, when you take a look at how the Chargers were playing this season, it is astonishing how they managed to lose some of the games. They have lost 21-point lead, had two fumbles in the last 62 seconds of the match, lost a 13-point lead in no more or no less but a 4th quarter and failed to enter into field goal territory against the Raiders in spite the fact they had more than two minutes on the clock to work with. They will find a way to lose to Broncos without a doubt.
Our pick: Broncos
Bengals vs. Patriots
Patriots home game against the Bengals marks the return of Tom Brady to Gillette Stadium. When playing at home against non-divisional AFC team Brady has been razor sharp. He currently stands at 25 straight wins. This streak started almost ten years ago in 2007. Also, Bengals didn’t record a win against the Patriots in New England since 1986.
Our pick: Patriots
Ravens vs. Giants
Giants offense has been performing somehow shady over the past few weeks. Without consistency in their game, they couldn’t have a worst opponent in the next match. Ravens are currently boasting NFL’s best defense, and that is the fact that Giants just won’t be able to cope with. Both teams are coming off a defeat, but with Ravens unexpectedly losing to Redskins the Giants lost at Green Bay without even putting up a fight. Giants are the second worst team in NFC when coming off a defeat with their score currently standing at 6-13-1 ATS.
Our pick: Ravens
Panthers vs. Saints
Panthers lost their Monday Night football game against the Buccaneers, and this is partly due to Cam Newton not playing. He wasn’t there for them on Monday because of concussion, but he will be playing Saints. Panthers are nowhere near their last season’s performance. Week six could be a game changer for them because they are definitely better than 1-4. Cam Newton also has a 6-2 score against the Saints since he debuted in 2012.
Saints had a bye week so they will be fresh and fueled for this match, and looking at their last year record they have a good chance of winning. 5-1 ATS is the score against divisional rivals, and that score is last year’s league’s best. This match-up can also be considered Newton vs. Brees head on duel, and we will give a little advantage to Newton.
Our pick: Panthers
Steelers vs. Dolphins
Pittsburgh Steelers are currently on a two straight wins. In both of these wins, they were amazing offensively scoring 74 points. 31 points against the Jets and 43 points came in Kansas City Chiefs demolition. Their offense looks unstoppable, and this can be attributed to Le’Veon Bell coming back in the lineup. At the same time, the Miami Dolphins look like they can’t stop anything, having a 1-4 ATS score in 2016 which is NFL’s worst. Their defense is one of the league’s worst, and that was confirmed in week five when they allowed 30 points to Titans.
Our pick: Steelers
Jaguars vs. Bears
Bears are playing without their starting QB Jay Cutler, but that is no longer a loss considering just how good Brian Hoyer was. Even if Cutler thumb injury is over, and he has fully recovered we will see a fight for starting place. Bears can be considered home favorites against the Jaguars, but that can also be their downfall. They are 0-3 ATS as home favorites since 2015. Jaguars are to a 1-3 start and will be looking for a second consecutive win after the bye week. Their team can score points but are weak defensively. A win against the Bears would bring up their play-off aspirations as AFC South is wide open.
Our pick: Jaguars
49ers vs. Bills
This match will be as interesting as every 49ers duel was this season. Their games are exciting not because of the way they play but for their QB controversy. Colin Kaepernick could even start against the Bills, but Ponder and Gabbert are also in the mix. Eventually, this all could not matter because they are playing against ‘on-fire’ Bills. Buffalo is currently on three straight wins streak, and there’s no stopping them now. Well, not by the 49ers at least.
Our pick: Bills
Rams vs. Lions
Detroit Lions are coming to this match after a win, and that was a win that ended Eagles unbeaten start to the 2016 season. That game was marked by one of the career best performances of Lions QB Matthew Stafford. Full of confidence they are hosting wounded beast from L.A. Aaron Donald was the only defensive starter who played in week’s five defeat against Bills. 30 points was the mark where the Bills stopped in one of their best season’s outings. Week six doesn’t look any better for Rams, at least not defensively. They will be playing without Brockers, Hayes and Quinn. Taking into account that they are league’s worst team ATS on the road with 10-16-1 since 2013 Lions are a safe bet.
Our pick: Lions
Browns vs. Titans
We had to go to week six to get this kind of easy game to predict. Titans are the favorites for this one. Yes, you heard it well! Browns are in a desperate situation, and that can be concluded from their 0-5 start. Main reason for their bad start is bad luck with injuries. In the upcoming match with Titans, they are going to start 4th choice QB. This season they have already lost three QB to injuries. After RG III and Josh McCown, their third choice quarterback Cody Kessler has succumbed to injury in week 5. It is expected for Charlie Whitehurst to start in Tennessee. Hopefully, he will not get injured as it seems that QB position is especially hazardous in this squad.
Our pick: Titans
Eagles vs. Redskins
Week six match-up between Eagles and Redskins in the NFC East is one of the more interesting games to predict. Redskins have started their engines and are on a three straight wins. The last win against Baltimore Ravens was a real achievement. Kirk Cousins is getting his pieces together, and Redskins once again aim for the playoffs. Cousins has been especially good against the Philly team.
In his only three matches against the Eagles he completed 66% of his passes for eight touchdowns one interception and had 105.1 QB rating. Eagles are coming off their first defeat this season. Carson Wentz gave up his first NFL game, and we are eager to see how he will bounce back. Redskins are also on three straight wins against Eagles, and we are expecting fourth.
Our pick: Redskins
Chiefs vs. Raiders
This is the first time in years that this match is equally important to both teams. Raiders are on an incredible start currently standing on a 4-1 score with three straight wins. All of their wins came as a result of an amazing offensive play. Defensively they are one of the worst teams in the NFL. If you look at yards allowed per game, they are the worst! So far Derek Carr and Raiders offense managed to correct defensive errors. Kansas City Chiefs will prove a tough test for Raiders especially because they are coached by Andy Reid. Coming off a bye week he has an unbelievable score of 15-2, against the Raiders he is on a 5-1 score since he took over the helm at Chiefs.
Our pick: Chiefs
Falcons vs. Seahawks
Matthew Ryan and Atlanta Falcons are on the road to becoming NFL’s best offensive team. With a 4-1 score, they already have serious playoff aspirations. In last two weeks, they have defeated the participants of last year’s Super Bowl. In both of those games they were underdogs and in week six they are facing the same odds. Seahawks are favorites for this one. With Russell Wilson back to fully backup the squad and rest of the roster rested after the bye week they are in a good position. Another thing that is going in their favor is their score on the home turf. They have 33-5 ATS at home, the streak that started in 2012. At the same time, they have 39-12 ATS score against the non-divisional rivals. These numbers are the NFL’s best for the given period.
Our pick: Seahawks
Cowboys vs. Packers
Dallas is currently on of the best teams in NFL ATS, and with the 4-1 score, they are leading NFC East. Cowboys team started to work well under the guidance of Dak Prescott, and their game style brought the best out of Ezekiel Elliott. The key for Dallas win, if they are to record one, will be In their rushing game. They are currently 0-5 straight-up against the Green Bay Packers, and this streak started all the way back in 2009. On the other side will be Aaron Rogers who will put Cowboys defense under some serious pressure. The key for Packers win will be, besides good performance from Aaron Rogers, stopping of Cowboys rushing game. This will also be one of the most interesting match-ups. Packers defense which is the number one in the league for stopping rushing game against league’s best rusher Elliott who has 546 yards to his name.
Our pick: Packers
Colts vs. Texans
This match will be decided by one of the two starting quarterbacks. Colts have Andrew Luck who has been playing well and has his team on a 2-3 start but with some good performances. Brock Osweiler is at the moment someone who can’t be trusted as he has been playing very changeable. He has some good stats but also has seven interceptions to his name this season. Luck has always performed well against the Texans and divisional rivals alike. While we are sure that Osweiler will find consistency in due time, it’s not gonna happen against the Colts.
Our pick: Colts
Jets vs. Cardinals
Jets are currently on a 1-4 start. They are a little better than this but with the way Ryan Fitzpatrick plays they should be happy for this one win. Some rumors suggest that even Geno Smith could start which is not very likely but with the way Fitzpatrick is performing anything is possible. Their only chance for a win lies in the fact that Carson Palmer is not 100% sure for Jets. With Drew Stanton on the helm, Jets have some chances of winning. We are counting that Palmer is fit to start and so we are picking the Cardinals.
Our pick: Cardinals
