The competition that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is facing with Google and iOs is world-famous. It has been struggling to popularize its applications for a long time. In order to get rid of it, Microsoft announced a deal in March, under which it would push its Apps into the maximum number or handsets possible. Looks like the deal was nothing but a giant asterisk! AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) have refused to pre-install Microsoft Apps on Samsung S6.
Insights on the matter
AT&T and Verizon are two of the U.S.’s largest wireless companies. Their decision to not stand in the favor of Microsoft applications is a clear indication that the demand for Microsoft applications is far from high in the market, even after these many years. It’s a big shock for the world’s largest Smartphone developer.
Microsoft had thought that with the help of this deal, Skype, OneDrive and OneNote of the company would be installed in Samsung S6 and reach maximum number of users. The company is inclined towards enhancing the overall growth of its applications, but things don’t seem to go its way. Even though, a large part of consumers thinks that pre-installed apps in any Smartphone are nothing but an imposition, but Microsoft feels another way. It thinks that preinstalled apps can increase the overall usage of the application in any situation.
Both Verizon and AT&T have made things clear that Samsung S6 handsets sold by Verizon won’t have these three applications. The S6 handset that is sold by AT&T will make available Skype and OneNote, but not OneDrive. The announcement made by these leading companies have made thing clear that far lesser than expected people will download Microsoft’s application. It’s an adverse fact, but still the company doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned.
Microsoft and Samsung adjoined hands in March for business objectives and thought that this initiative would lead to sales growth, but things haven’t gone as per plans so far. It will be great to see how Microsoft responds to this situation now.
