Apparently, former world racket No. 1 has decided to, after his termination of cooperation with Boris Becker, appoint Marián Vajda as his successor who is in Novak’s coaching staff since 2006.
After his decision that day Novak has posted a photo of his team for the next year which lacks only one thing – there is no famous German tennis player, and he captioned it accordingly – “New year, new goals, new energy! Grateful and excited to see what future brings. Greetings from #TeamDjokovic! See you in Doha!” As you already know, from our recent posts, Novak has been searching for Boris Becker’s successor (with whom he from the end of 2013 won 25 titles) for these past few months. As you recall, we wrote about several possibilities for this position, and they included Alejo Mancisidor Garbiñe Muguruza’s former coach, Jimmy Connors, Amélie Mauresmo, Brad Gilbert, Stefan Edberg and Nenad Zimonjic.
To refresh your memory, we will go back in history and remind you that Vajda took the position as Novak’s head coach way back in June 2006 when Djokovic was down on the ATP list as a 40th player. After all the hard work and sacrifices, five years later Novak, accompanied by his coach Vajda, managed to break through and take the first place on the ATP list on April 4th, 2011. The Slovak who as player had a record of 119 wins and 154 defeats, and best ever placement as 34th player on the ATP list, was the only one who was with Novak’s team from the very first Grand Slam trophy in Melbourne all the way to the last one, the 12th on Roland Garros this year.
We all believe that this is a great move that Novak made, and if you take a closer look at all the pictures where Novak and Vajda are together (I know that this is somewhat subjective) you can see the paternal gentle eyes and smile that show you just how much love he has for the Serbian tennis player. Just to demonstrate that we are not far away from this, Vajda was chosen for the best coach by the Serbian Olympic Committee for the year 2010 and 2011. Since this is all a done deal, we can only wish them both all the luck in their future endeavors and hope to see Novak back on the tennis throne once again!
