Tony Romo was injured, and the Dallas Cowboys gave rookie quarterback Dak Prescott a chance he used. When Romo got healthy, the coaching staff and owner decided to keep him on the bench, and this guy announced that he would start a new career in broadcasting at the end of the season. However, the Cowboys will keep their options open and won’t shut the door on Romo.
It appears as if the Dallas wants this drama around. Even though they don’t have any reason to keep his locker empty and not giving his No. 9 jersey to anyone, the Cowboys will do it. In case Prescott gets injured, the veteran could return to the field in order to keep the team in the right direction. Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson talked about Romo for a moment.
“It’s fun to speculate about that, if Dak were to go down in Week Two, would Tony come back?” Wilson said. “I don’t know the answer to that. I just don’t know. Do I think he’s capable of coming back and playing? Most definitely. Does he want to or what his commitment is to the network? I don’t know that, so it’s fun to think about, and it’s fun water-cooler topics to talk about [even without] information to make a definitive answer on that.”
This is an interesting topic to talk about even when there is no concrete information. What the Cowboys need to do is to honor Romo, who had given everything he had to the franchise, but the question is: “What is the best way to do so?” Keeping the door open is not really a good way, and Dallas should end this chapter and focus on the team at hand. Even if Prescott gets hurt, Romo may not return, we don’t know how he feels or what is in his head.
The Dallas Cowboys is a tremendous franchise, and they always draw a lot of attention. This situation with Romo is not why should we put the spotlight on them. Tony Romo did a whole lot for Dallas and should be thanked for it appropriately, but whoever wants him in a uniform cannot just wait for someone to get injured and call him to fill his spot. It is disrespectful.
