Toyota decided to show off some of their design studies at this year’s Auto Show in Shanghai, and one of them attracted our full attention, and that is company’s sedan called the Fengchao Fun Concept. If you think it looks familiar you are not wrong – it has a lot more than just a pure resemblance to the new North American Toyota Camry, especially with those lines.
The NA Camry, since we mentioned it, made its debut at the Detroit earlier this year and it did that with a sharp and sporty body that seems to be copied by the China show-car but with somewhat rearranged front and rear end to show a slightly different focus with this one. The new things on the Fengchao Fun concept include a large front mesh grille, narrow and sleek-looking housings for both front and rear light clusters and an integrated trunk spoiler. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to get any info regarding the powertrain options because the automaker didn’t disclose them, so it is very hard to figure out if this one is just the one-off concept or will some of its cues eventually manage to find their way to the, let’s say, Chinese market Camry.
As you know the US Camry, when it starts sales later this year, will offer three powertrain options to its buyers – 3.5 L V6 with D-4S fuel injection, a 2.5 L four-cylinder with a new eight-speed automatic and a next-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS II). The US bound Camry is sitting firmly on a Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) chassis which also carries the new Prius, while in Shanghai this carmaker focused on a more modular unibody automobile platform which is best shown by the Fengchao Fun Concept.
More news about this and similar cars from Shanghai will be available right here on our site and if there are any updates regarding the Fengchao Fun Concept we will gladly bring it to you, so stay tuned!
