Believe it or not, but 2017 is already half over. When it comes to the movies, there have been some excellent ones as well as not-so-good ones. However, it is truly a remarkable year for the industry, and we have yet to see some amazing films in the second half of this year. Let’s revise top 17 movies from the first six months.
17. Manifesto
Cate Blanchett is playing 13 different characters – and you are still wondering why this movie is one of the best in 2013? Manifesto is something you have not seen before, and it is more of an art performance than a film, but it offers a mysterious and artful reflection on the idealism and ironies which arise when the artists are commenting their work. It is definitely worth watching this one.
16. I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore
This move is an unpredictable story about a depressed loner which is furious with the world. Her house got robbed. However, she unexpectedly becomes a friend to her neighbor played by Elijah Wood. He loves ninja weapons, but they somehow find themselves in the center of something crazier than they have ever dreamed of. This film is not a classic, and it is not for everyone, but it will make you cry, laugh and think. It is a unique movie that will not leave you listless.
15. Logan
Logan is the last addition to the franchise in which we will see Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine. This movie is different, and we have a chance to look at the burned out, burdened and old Logan who is with a periodically senile Professor Charles Xavier, a man who can no longer control his powers. It is great news that Logan focuses on characters rather than action and it shows a whole different side of the famous character.
14. Colossal
Colossal is a movie with Anne Hathaway who is playing a worn-out alcoholic. This film is hard to categorize – sometimes it is a romantic comedy, but it can be a lot darker at the moments whereas at the same time it is a monster movie. Everything is mixed out in Colossal and this in what makes this film stand out in the crowd, but Colossal also shows how addiction can affect one’s life.
13. Personal Shopper
Personal Shopper is a film that shows meditative ghost story, high fashion, and wealth and the search for the supernatural at the same time. Kristen Stewart plays the main role in the movie and she is a personal shopper to a wealthy socialite, but at the same time she looks for her dead twin brother as a ghost hunter. It sounds like another bad flick, but it is not according to everyone’s taste.
12. Graduation
Graduation is directed by Cristian Mungiu who also directed 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Graduation is an intense drama that revolves around a man named Romeo who wants nothing but best for his daughter and thanks to the bureaucracy he will take the road he never expected to tread. This film is pessimistic and sometimes infuriating, but it will evoke all kinds of emotions in you. Romeo is changing, and you will see it throughout the story.
11. Casting JonBenet
Casting JonBenet is a documentary, but it is a lot more intense than you would expect a documentary to be. Filmmakers find the decades-old case of the 6-year-old beauty queen found murdered in her home on Christmas still intriguing, but the focus of this movie is the people of Boulder, Colorado, the place of the killing. Kitty Green is the director, and he invited people to audition for any role in the Ramsey case. He explains that the audition materials will be used for the movie and most of it comes from the tapes.
10. Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is a story about the superhero, but it is presented in such a good way that everyone loved it. The director of the movie is Patty Jenkins, while Wonder Woman is played by Gal Gadot who did great. You can still watch this box office smasher in theaters, and we suggest you go because it’s worth it seeing it on the silver screen.
9. Risk
Risk is a complicated film about a very sensitive subject, or a person to be more precise – Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. The story focuses on Assange’s personal goals, the aims of his organization and it presents him in an objective light. WikiLeaks discovered that supposedly Russia had an influence on 2016 US election and if you are into politics, this movie will be perfect for you.
8. Okja
Okja is a film about a Korean girl and a giant super pig. Take our word on this and just watch this incredible satire. Ok, we will give you more information. This movie is slightly odd, and it combines action, arthouse and political satire into one project. Do you need more details about the story? Okja is a film about the horrors of factory farming, and it proves a point. Oh, would you just watch it? You will not regret it.
7. The Beguiled
The Beguiled is a Southern Gothic tale with an amazing cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Kristen Dunst and Colin Farrell. The movie is a revenge fantasy set at Miss Martha Farnsworth’s Seminary for Young Ladies when a Union soldier shows up. We are not going to spoil the rest by teling you more.
6. A Quiet Passion

The movie is smooth without classic elements of the biographical film such as dates, times and significant accomplishments. The poetry of Emily Dickinson is arguably the most beautiful poetry in the US, and she definitely deserved to be a topic of a movie.
5. The Big Sick
Source:imdb.comIf you are a fan of romantic comedies, The Big Sick is the right choice for you. However, it is not a tale we have all heard, and it does feel like a real life, perhaps since it is written by the real-life married couple. You will have a hard time taking the smile off of your face.
4. Baby Driver
Baby Driver is Edgar Wright’s action comedy with an amazing cast including Jamie Foxx, Lily James, Kevin Spacey and unforgettable Jon Hamm. Baby is a getaway driver who always wears his headphones and helps people get away from police. It combines action movie elements with a lot of music and Baby Driver may be a perfect film when you come home from work.
3. I Am Not Your N*gro
It is a documentary written by James Baldwin and directed by Raoul Peck, and it talks about the racial issues and the life of African-Americans. This is a cinematic essay-memoir that depicts the history of the US and shows some of the country’s imperfections. Samuel L. Jackson is the narrator, and Baldwin mostly took the materials from the novel called Remember This House, which was never published.
2. The Lost City of Z
The Lost City of Z is based on Grann’s 2010 book about Percy Fawcett who traveled to South America to find the mysterious city. He wanted to discover something greater, something beyond the civilization people knew back then and this film wonderfully shows his journey. You will be taken to a trip with Fawcett and feel alive.

It shows the other side of racism, and even though there are literally millions of movies about it, this one will truly get under your skin. You will have some weird feeling in your stomach as you watch it and you will definitely feel the chills down your spine.
