Even though Fox-body Mustang was successful in its early years in the market, it began to fade away, causing Ford to forge plans to discontinue the car after 1986. The company’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) wanted to create an original car which would be stable in the unstable performance car market. For the 1984 model year, Blue Oval used turbocharged I4 engines good for 175 horsepower and modified suspension. Only 11,788 models were built, but SVO preserved the Mustang as it went against imported vehicles such as the Toyota Supra, Porsche 924 and Nissan 280ZX.
