When people visit the States, they are surprised that almost everyone here owns a car. In America, most families would buy several cars for each member while that is not the case in Europe, for instance. The reason for this is that gas is so inexpensive in the States, whereas most people who live in large cities rely heavily on public transport. Moreover, finding parking is a lot easier in the American cities than the European.
