4Colombia – Caño Cristales

This one is a unique river located in the Serrania de la Macarena, in the province of Meta in Colombia, and you probably may know it as “The River of Five Colors” or “The Liquid Rainbow.” The reason behind these names hides in its striking colors such as black, blue, green and yellow. The most dominant of all, though, is the red deriving from the Macarenia clavigera plant species that are lining the river bed, and that can turn it a brilliant red during the short period between the wet and dry season.
