1HONORABLE MENTIONS
Midnight Club: This is an open world street racing game set in virtual recreations of world’s capital cities. You would drive a modified EJ-series Honda Civic with no license plates. Badass right? Oh yes, and you could also drive motorcycles. The best thing about this game wasn’t the racing segment, it was rather the ability to crash and smash into numerous things and cars. You had nitrous-oxide booster upgrades for that extra step that would place you in front of your rivals. Not very realistic but interesting as hell.
Carmageddon: Again, crashing galore game. This game was made as if the goal had been to make players destroy cars and kill pedestrians. And it was fun too. Really fun! You would do things that were beyond your wildest dreams in that game and those stunts were certainly something you wouldn’t dare do in the real life. That’s probably why is was so fun.
Cruis’n World: This game was built on the not so successful Cruis’n USA that was released 2 years before this one. Developers improved cars, tracks and scenery that was captured by artists travelling all around the globe just to take those photos and make the game as realistic as possible. That’s mainly what made this game a Nintendo 64 hit and it was huge in every arcade everywhere in the country!
