The original Gran Turismo was indeed a game changer when it comes to racing games genre. Millions adored Gran Turismo 4 and it is still the pinnacle of the franchise. It launched with 650 cars and it brought many real-world tracks to the series including Nürburgring Nordschleife and Circuit de la Sarthe. And if that wasn’t enough for you, you could have tackled both tracks in full-on 24 hour endurance session. Would you say no to 24 hours of gaming back then? Not really. It would be a straightforward yes.
Gran Turismo 4 introduced with it the concept of taking cool photos of great cars. No other game did that before. Its photo mode was easy to use and it allowed gamers to place cars wherever they liked and take action shots at any track they wanted. Developers paid so much attention to detail that back then it was hard to tell if it was a real photo or just a photo from the game.
This game was released for the Playstation 2 and players really waited long before it launched but oh boy was it worth it. This game was as close to ‘the perfect racing game’ as it can go. We don’t think that there is a game closer to real racing today that is better than this one.
