In 1982 this was the hottest racing game. There was no other game than this one. Pole Position was indeed the first racing game to actually feature an actual track. And that track was the Fuji Speedway. This game was so popular that it spawned an arcade sequel called Pole Position II. It was ported to numerous early consoles some of which include Atari 2600, Atari 5200 and the Intellvision. It successfully battled time back then and attention to detail was immaculate!
