In a recent interview, Dwayne Johnson described the moment that defined his Hollywood career. Former wrestler said that in the period when he accepted and embraced his WWE past was the “defining moment” that shaped up his acting career.
People’s Champ left the WWE to focus on acting, and because of this decision, he became one of the most popular people on planet Earth. The movies such as Fast Five, Furious 7, San Andreas, and most recent hist Baywatch and Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle helped him achieve this.
The 45-year-old actor reveals a story in which he stated that his team at the time of his transition from WWE to Hollywood advised him that he should move away from his wrestling legacy. The goal was for him to be known as Dwayne Johnson and not The Rock.
This approach didn’t work for Johnson. Talking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, who are hosts of This Morning he said that his career started off when he fully embraced his WWE past.
Talking about this period of his career Brahman Bull said: “When I first started in Hollywood I was told at that time by the management I had around me that you have to forget about your past and you can’t bring wrestling up, we have to slowly leave that behind and let’s not refer to yourself as The Rock, let’s make sure everyone’s calling you Dwayne Johnson.”
Inexperienced, and trying to make a career for himself in acting, which is not easy, Johnson listened to this advice at first. He said, “When you’re new in the business as I was, almost 18 years ago, you buy into it, and you just don’t know because you want to make it and I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants and bought into that.”
Luckily for us, his fans, and Johnson’s career in Hollywood, he soon saw that it’s not the road he wants to be heading: ‘It was a defining moment in my career when I finally decided I’m not going to be ashamed of my past. I love my past. Pro wrestling isn’t for everybody, but it’s my life. You call me The Rock, you can call me Dwayne Johnson, you can call me daddy. You can call me whatever you want to call me, but that’s my past, and I love it.”
It was good hearing The Rock talk about his past, and this prompted one frequently asked question; Is there a chance of him returning to the ring? Eamonn Holmes asked the question his son Jack directed, to which Johnson responded: “Thank you for being a fan and thank you for wanting me to go back to the WWE. Like your son, there are so many WWE fans out there who are always looking for me to go back to WWE, and I always say I started my career there and there’s nothing like that live crowd interaction.”
Well, that’s not an answer we wanted to hear, but we are all hoping to see him wrestle again. He missed this year’s Wrestlemania, so chances that he will return to the ring in the future are slim, but one can hope.
