BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has launched a new all-touch device, the Leap. The new device offers all the features of the earlier devices from the company and much more. The smartphone has been categorized as affordable handset offering mid-range performance with all the regular security and features of productivity. Since the handset comes with an unusual mix of features and components along with the usual hardware lineup from Blackberry, it might not be as appealing to the masses.
Inner Features
The device comes with a 720p display, 2GB RAM, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 8-megapixel rear camera, 16GB internal storage and 2-megapixel front camera. The new additions to the device include 5 inches LCD display, 2,800mAh battery, 128GB expandable MicroSD card and no NFC support. being outdated, the presence of outdated silicon dinosaur processor is probably used to bring costs of the device down.
The Design
The design is quite basic without any curves and edges and the display covers the whole of the front panel. The Leap weighs around 170gm and comes with some thickness and heaviness. Both the MicroSD slots and the SIM are situated on the left side together, and the volume, and Assistant buttons are to the right. The power button is situated at the top of the center with microphone and headphone jack placed side by side.
The microphone and the micro-USB are located in the center of the bottom side by side. Although not all the internal features seem to match the latest software upgrades, the Leap uses the latest BlackBerry OS, 10.3.1 to run and hence the device is in the lineup with the other Blackberry versions.
If the device was meant for the Android platform, it could have been easily come under the category of an affordable handset.
However, very few people nowadays use the Blackberry platform and hence Leap does not even gain an entry into this category. Briefly, this device is exceptional for those who want to use Blackberry but cannot afford to buy the classic and pricey versions from the same handset manufacturer.
