Yeah! That is the thing we have been waiting all this time. After the grueling anticipation, guessing, speculations from all over, then after the official reveal and info we finally have arrived at the most crucial point tied to any new vehicle, and it’s the fact that the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is finally shipping to dealers.
Shipments started today but as you already know there will not be too much of these beauties to go around for everyone. Dodge has announced that total of 3.300 units will be produced from which 3.000 will be set for the US market and only 300 to the Canadian one. Thanks to the limit in the production this one is on a fast lane to becoming an instant classic, would you agree? But there is a good reason for the limitation and its hidden in the fact that this is not the car you buy and leave it in the garage or your driveway. No! The Challenger SRT Demon has been bred especially for the dragstrip where it can go very fast in a straight line and reach demonic speeds thanks to its V8 HEMI engine that allows it to do 0-60 MPH in 2.3 seconds and take you down the quarter-mile in just 9.65 seconds at 140 MPH.
With your purchase of this hellhound you will not only get the car itself but the leather-bound track tech manual, put together by editors from Hot Rod magazine, with instructions for the best track settings. Plus if you spit another $1 for the Demon Crate you will get every performance part you’d need to make your vehicle a track-ready beast, and all the tools to do so as well. The Demon Crate holds a performance powertrain control module, with high-octane calibration for the engine, a replacement switch module with the high-octant button, and a conical performance air filter. In it, you will also find a passenger mirror block-off plate, and probably the most important part of drag racing – narrow, front-runner drag wheels. The list continues to a hydraulic floor jack, cordless impact wrench, torque wrench, tire pressure gauge, fender cover, and a tool bag, and all of that comes with Demon branding to make you look snazzy as well.
There is also another option that costs, get this, a dollar and it’s the rear seats that you can put in the car. If you’ll have more than one passengers in the Demon than you will opt for this, but you will also receive the Mopar rear-seat delete package that allows the back seat removal before racing. The package will include a seatback closeout panel, Demon seatback panel bezel, lower seat tray with cargo net, seat belt delete C-pillar covers, and a rear packaging shelf to cover the tether holes. There are some “premium equipment” (for the lack of better word) that you can have and it includes a Speedlogix four-point harness bar and an exclusive Demon VBOX Video HD2 system that comes with a 10-Hertz GPS system and synchronized video capture which will provide useful track info like your track time, accelerator and brake use, gear selection, engine and vehicle speed, G-forces, wheel slip, and more.
To use this beast on the city streets, you can get a hold of the Mopar Demon Street Tire Package which will allow you to preserve your drag radials for the track only. The package holds four lightweight forged 20×11 inch Devil’s Rim wheels, as seen on the Hellcat Widebody. They’re already fitted with Pirelli 305/35ZR20 performance tires, which have Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors inside. To sweeten the deal Dodge has done another magnificent thing (besides giving us this beast), and it is the prevention of price gouging that clearly threatens the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. They shot a very clear warning to all dealer that if they price the vehicle above the MRSP of $84,995 (plus $1,095 destination), they will have to wait a lot longer for their specimens. This means that those dealerships that stick to the factory “recommended” price will be privileged and will receive their Demons a lot sooner.
