A teacher from Joplin High School kicked out a student for being ‘too bus*y’ and the whole town of Springfield is talking about it now! Is this okay or is it a scandal? Let’s see.
Kelsey Anderson was removed from class for alleged ‘dress code violation’ according to an attorney who represents the teen. She was wearing a long-sleeved maroon top and blue jeans. On Friday she went to school thinking that it would be a regular day at the office but unfortunately, it was the exact opposite. The teacher apparently told the teen how ‘plus-sized women’ need to buy clothes at stores that sell plus-sized pieces of garment.
Attorney Elizabeth Turner also stated that teacher didn’t stop there. Kelsey’s teacher, who is a woman, added how less “blessed” women could get away with more than those that are “blessed” more.
The distressed student claimed that she felt ‘mortified’ because of her teacher’s actions. Saying something like that in front of a whole class was catastrophic.
This incident is currently under investigation according to the Joplin school district. Officials haven’t yet determined whether the dress policy had been violated.
“The District does not consider comments by staff members about students’ bodies appropriate. Our staff conduct policy requires all staff members to maintain courteous and professional relationships with students.”
Kelsey’s mom, Melissa Barber, shared her outrage on Facebook following the scandal. That post went viral, and you’ll easily see why.
There have been a couple of posts and comments regarding this scandal. Among those most interesting is what mother of the girl said. She immediately stated that the teacher had no right to talk to her daughter in that way to which many agreed.
In another post, Barber claimed that her daughter asked to be removed from class because she felt ’embarrassed and horrified’.
School principal denied the request, and that only added fuel to the fire.
‘I refuse to put my daughter in a situation where her self esteem is completely destroyed. She is there to learn. This whole time she was missing out on an education.’ He continued by saying ‘How often does this happen to your sons? Seems like another way to keep girls uneducated.’
Kelsey’s mom also posted a video on Facebook where a quite disturbing shirt was worn by a male student and concluded that he did not receive any punishment. As soon as the person read the disturbing writing on the shirt Anderson’s daughter walks in front of the camera in maroon top and jeans for which she was sent to the office.
This video went viral, and it was viewed 120,000 times as of Wednesday. Her other post got shared more than 55,000 times.
Barber thanked everyone for their support on Facebook. ‘Thank you so much for standing with her! I started this fight for my daughter. I will finish it for yours.’
Attorney Turner also shared her opinion and said: ‘It is sad that in this day and age, when we teach children and young adults about the dangers of bullying and body shaming with laws to protect against bullying, that we have to worry about the adults in our children’s lives being the ones to hurt them. Bullying and body shaming isn’t something to take lightly.’
Anderson also stated: ‘I just don’t want any other girls to go through what I’ve been through and treated how I’ve been treated. I asked to be accommodated so I don’t have to go back to her class, but I was told no.’
Joplin Schools district ‘wasn’t able to comment’ on this matter, so we have no statement coming from their end.
