Sword Art Online is the anime show that debuted back in 2012 before a second season followed in 2014, but ever since then it has been quiet, and there wasn’t a lot of news regarding season 3. Well, dear fans, that is about to change, and you should start paying a lot more attention to the franchise. As it turns out, the Sword Art Online got a new release, a movie that has been already shown, firstly to only a few lucky fans, according to which, at the screening, a huge important revelation happened, and later on, it had a worldwide premiere.
But that limited movie premiere that happened firstly is important because those happy few found out that the season 3 of the Sword Art Online will be delivered, and it was all thanks to A-1 Pictures who treated them to a special clip after the film aired which teased that Sword Art Online’s return. We remind you of only a few Twitter feeds that were published after the limited projection. One user named @tuki0811 wrote, “I just saw the world’s first test screening of SAO lol. It was so good I got goosebumps lol. Oh, by the way, season 3 was announced.” Another user, known as Yaraon, also commented “sao will return’ is written in the end credits of Ordinal Scale. The third season of the anime is comiiiiing!”
The only downside to all of this is that the A-1 Pictures haven’t said anything regarding this topic. There were some words about the official statement that should come after the Japanese release of Sword Art Online Movie Ordinal Scale which was in February, but unfortunately, nothing is out still. The Sword Art Online Movie Ordinal Scale hit Japanese theaters on 18th of February, and it was released simultaneously with a sub that same day as well, and for the U.S. theaters, it came somewhat later, specifically in March.
Since you have to wait for season 3 to hit the screens here is the short synopsis of the movie you may, or may not have already watched – In 2024, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba, called NerveGear. It was the first full-dive system, and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs. In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn’t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is “Ordinal Scale” (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma. Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, by the time Kirito decides to join them. They’re about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn’t all fun and games.
