One of the new games presented at E3 2015 is Shenmue 3, but it was one of the few that was announced on stage with a Kickstarter campaign. The Shenmue 2 was released on the Dreamcast 16 years ago and now the developer Ys Net has the official rights to the Shenmue 3 he acquired from Sega. Unreal 4 engine will be used to build the new open world action-RPG game, and the story will revolve around Ryo Hazuki who will try to track down his father’s killer.
We expect new fight mechanics in Shenmue 3, and this is what the developer said about the game: “Our ambition is to deliver a Shenmue experience that will draw in newcomers to the series and reward diehard fans with its deep story and rich gameplay.”
Shenmue 3 Release Date
The Kickstarter surpassed the $2m mark in just 9 hours, and the game started with the development process back in July 2015. It should have been released in December this year, but the fans will have to wait for more than that because the game has been postponed for the second half of 2018.
“We, unfortunately, must delay its release,” designer Yu Suzuki said. “By utilizing new technologies, we have been able to discover new possibilities and expressions. In many ways, the game has become bigger and more beautiful than I initially expected. We do, however, need more time to deliver the game to you.”
Platforms
Shenmue 3 will be released on PC and S4, but this doesn’t mean that it will not be available on other platforms as well. The developer said that “other platforms have not been decided yet.” You can pre-order the game through Kickstarter, and the digital copy costs $29 at the moment with the physical copy reaching the price of $60.
Trailers
Shenmue 3 was announced two years ago, and we still haven’t seen the full trailer. However, there is the original Kickstarter campaign video which provides some footage of the upcoming game. You can see the video below.
