BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) executive believe that its partnership with the South Korean Samsung would help it to build more efficient customer base in India. In an interview with ET, Blackberry India managing director Sunil Lalvani told that Samsung already have a good presence in the Indian market, including in the Bring Your Own Device or BYOD segment. The South Korean company will support Blackberry to reach deeper in the country.
“In the BYOD space, a lot of Android devices are coming, of which a majority of devices happen to be made by Samsung,” Lalvani added
Security a ‘trump card’ for BlackBerry
With the help of Samsung, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) would be able to sell BES12 servers licenses to corporate clients using Samsung devices with Knox solution.
The partnership will add a high-level of security and manageability through the combination of BES12 and Knox as the devices are very much prone to such vulnerabilities. The company’s officials describe the agreement as a win-win situation for both BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) and Samsung.
According to Lalvani, the flagship BES12 offering along with other services will help BlackBerry to make its position strong in the Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) segment in India, along with helping it to get some value returns from the $1.8 billion market.
Lalvani said, “We are playing security trump card and counting majorly on BES 12 in the new financial year.”
Hoping success from hardware too
The news of the BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) –Samsung partnership of selling each others mobile security technology was announced weeks ago. Along with this the Canadian company announced six other plans that include Blackberry’s BES12, BlackBerry Blend, WorkLife, Enterprise Identity, VPN Authentication, BBM Meetings and Secure Voice Solutions.
In addition, the company is hoping to pace up its hardware business as the company recently unveiled its high-end BlackBerry Passport in India for Rs 49,990 (approx. $800). Also, in the international markets, the company is coming up with its latest QWERTY smartphone Classic, which along with touchscreen 10.3.1 OS is equipped with old BlackBerry Bold’s optical track pad and a physical QWERTY keyboard.
Blackberry Classic is expected to bring some joy for the company as a lot of QWERTY loyalists are keenly waiting for the phone. The device is expected to hit the market globally on December 17.
