“What Really Happened,” a new podcast listening experience which launches on Wednesday, is a series hosted and co-produced by documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenkins and it brings Dwayne The Rock Johnson as an executive producer, believe it or not. Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia co-founded Seven Bucks Production and along with Cadence13 launched the series.
It is a mini-series whose storyline revolves around historical figures and their lives. The first episode, which has already been released, focuses on Muhammad Ali.
This new audio series tells the deeper story with six real-life narratives from modern history. After the release of these six stories, there will be another six corresponding reaction episodes which will include insights from eyewitnesses and some other crucial figures, therefore having a vital role in the exploration of every topic. Each week Jenks applies the extensive research skills he has in order to understand better and be able to tell the stories about controversies and people in modern history.
The first six epic dramas will be about Muhammad Ali, Chris Christie, Britney Spears, Michael Jordan, Winston Churchill and Princess Diana.
What makes the stories ultimately compelling is the fact that Jenks digs into the gaps between perception and reality, examining new facts along with motives, which offers an intimate and straightforward perspective.
In the episode about Muhammad Ali, Jenks tells a story of Ali rescuing a man from killing himself in 1981. Joseph, the man who was about to jump, got reassured by Ali after 30 minutes of talking to him. Another story is about Ali’s refusing to give Ronald Reagan his support years after being forbidden to fight in California. And this is just a beginning of what seems to be quite a promising series, which we are all looking forward to.
