The launch of a high-performance version of the electricity powered Renault Zoe before 2024 is becoming a real possibility! Renault is considering this idea ever since they launched the Renault Zoe e-sport concept in Geneva!
Patrice Ratti, Renault Sport CEO confirmed that the company engineers have completed the creation of the 460 bhp Zoe e-sport concept car and its prototype. This has been seen as a clear step towards the brand’s future direction which is Formula E involvement.
In the words of Patrice Ratti, the company is ‘thinking about doing a Zoe RS but it is a big study that will take time.’ He continued by saying ‘The performance of batteries has improved and that it is now feasible, which certainly wasn’t the case a few years ago. So the studies have begun.’
Zoe is reported to feature the Renault Sport Clio chassis and steering modifications even though Ratti claimed that a Renault Sport Car also needs ‘to handle well and that is the challenge.’ He also added: ‘To have the weight of the batteries and still achieve the agility we pride ourselves on is a tough task.’ Ratti also mentioned how the battery limitations mean that the prototype can be driven for 15 minutes flat out but not a single minute longer.
The boss of Renault Sport concluded by stating that Renault has established leadership in this field of auto-making. ‘Renault has established leadership in electric vehicles and we plan to maintain and develop that, the incredible acceleration of electric cars – that fits perfectly to Renault Sport.’
