2018 Ford Expedition is coming!
After they had undergone a small redesign during 2015, the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator were looking far more appealing than before. Now, a few years later, after large SUV’s again gained more popularity, people in Ford are looking to redesign their biggest SUV completely.
More and more spy photos of 2018 Ford Expedition are surfacing in recent months, and we can easily assume that Expedition is going to keep its role from before. The role was to deliver an affordable version of Navigator to people with less money to spend. At this point, we are only assuming this because new Navigator is nowhere to be seen. This assumption is based on the obvious similarities between the Expedition test mule and Lincoln Navigator concept that was presented at the New York Auto Show. Nevertheless, we are expecting that Lincoln model is going to start testing it in upcoming months.
2018 Ford Expedition design
On the spy photos, it can easily be seen that new Expedition draws its inspiration from F-150, and that is a deviation from what Expedition traditionally represents. Photos we have today, unlike those from a few months ago which were nothing more than F-150 Front grill attached to SUV’s chassis, offer front part of the SUV that brings smaller headlights, aesthetically better-shaped grill and definitely more aerodynamic looks. We would dare to say that it resembles Escape or even the Edge.
The design of the rear end can only be guessed at this point because that part of the car was much better camouflaged. Actually, the rear end of the car was completely fake and was nowhere near to what the final product will bring. We guess that Ford will go with the design we saw on Lincoln Navigator Concept with the rear end of the car in question. Taillights were probably the ones that Ford uses only for testing because they weren’t using the LED technology. One of the possibilities is that LED lights will be employed only for the higher trims of new Expedition 2018.
It’s is almost certain that Ford F-150 design style won’t make it to the new Expedition, but some things will be shared among them. The first thing that they will have in common is an aluminum body which is lighter than ever before in addition to the new T3 platform. The second part is the engine. Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with the ten-speed automatic transmission. The 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 will probably serve as Expedition’s base model engine, but we think that there might be another unit under it. Rumors about Hybrid powertrain are starting to circle, but nothing has been confirmed. What we could hear is that 3.5-liter V6 in combination with electric motors and battery pack could come with a solution for those that want lower fuel consumption.
What about release date and price of Ford Expedition 2018?
The official debut of 2018 Expedition is expected at the start of 2017, probably in January at the Detroit Auto Show. The car will go on sale on a later date of the same year, and it will be sold as 2018 model at the price similar to the previous version. We expect to see a slight increase in this department but not far from $47,000.
