Four seasons are behind Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin, and he’s in for a contract extension next year. His goal is to re-sign with Cowboys and to spend the remainder of his career with America’s Team.
Talking to Star-Telegram Martin said: “I was lucky enough to be drafted here, and I want to be here for my career. Hopefully, we can get something worked out.”
His contract runs into 2018 season, and earlier this year Cowboys have announced that they have picked up his fifth-year option. But, after 2018 season he will hit free agency. If he fails to reach an agreement with Dallas franchise, he will undoubtedly receive a huge paycheck somewhere else.
Zack Martin came to Dallas from Notre Dame. He was the 16th pick in 2014 NFL draft and Cowboys first choice that year. From his debut season, he was a starter and played in every single match for The Boys since his rookie season till today.
And, this is no wonder as he has been immensely dominant since his debut. In every season he has played, Martin was selected for Pro Bowl earning All-Pro honors in 2014 and 2016. Dallas higher-ups held meetings with Martin and his representatives during 2017 off-season working on securing his long-term future with the franchise.
When asked about contract negotiations Martin said: “We had good talks. But just at that time, I didn’t want it to linger during the season and think about it. So kind of held it and played this year, so hopefully, we can talk and get something done here in the off-season.”
Dallas Cowboys have one more game to play, vs. Eagles before hitting off-season. Re-signing Zack Martin should be their priority instead of dealing who’s fault is for theirs at moments abysmal 2017 performance. It doesn’t matter if it was Dak, Dez, Garrett, or Linehan. It definitely wasn’t Martin’s fault, and his new contract is a must for Cowboys.
