Well, thanks to the courtesy of Spanish site Diariomotor we are able to feast our eyes on this gem that comes from Land Rover in the form of a “middle child” that will find its place between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. These pictures leaked just before Range Rover Velar debuts later next week at the Geneva Motor Show (9-19th March 2017).
Since it is a well-guarded secret, technical details are still unknown, but from the sheer look and size of this thing, we presume it is rational to expect a range of four- and six-cylinder units to be offered, in their various turbocharged and supercharged editions. Design wise, Velar is nicely shaped and brings swept-back front and angular roofline outside while the interior brings five-seat configuration and a cockpit that looks off the hook, just like all other recent offerings from Land Rover.
The technology side of the Velar does not lack in any way, as you can see from the photos it hosts a large, horizontally oriented touchscreen interface front and center, with a flush-mounted, secondary screen below. But thanks to all the troubles other manufacturers (Honda and Infiniti) had with the double screen setup so far, we will stay reserved in its rating until someone confirms just how good or bad it actually is.
To anyone that doesn’t know, this is the second set of Range Rover Velar photos where the first one was given to us by Land Rover, and they showed us its rear-end design. When that set of pictures was released, Land Rover’s design chief, Gerry McGovern gave a statement saying that “We call the Velar the avant-garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand”. May I just say, by the look of the Velar, Mr. McGovern isn’t far from the truth here. It truly looks more glamorous, modern and elegant than anything before it, but will it also feel that way, we will report back as soon as we find out. Stay tuned!
