Yes, you read it right, an R2-D2 Droid used in several Star Wars movies has sold for nearly $3 million last Wednesday at an auction. We still have no information on who was the buyer of the most expensive item offered from the movie franchise. Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber and Darth Vader’s helmet were also available alongside other items featured in the Star Wars films.
According to the Calabasas, Profiles in History based in Cali, the droid was worth up to $2 million before the sale.
We have mentioned that there were other items from the space-themed film and TV memorabilia. A collection of 23 ships from Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers sold for $1.8 million. A helmet from the set of Aliens, which was worn by the legendary Bill Paxton sold for $51,000.
Some argue that items available at this auction were all from this world. Well, they are wrong. The legendary lighted dance floor from Saturday Night Fever sold for whopping $1.2 million. Extraordinary right? Well, check out an auction of this kind if you feel like spending a million or two or even three on items that shaped movie history or just items that can be used as toys…
