Princess Diana’s Audi 80 B4 Cabriolet on auction!

My God the Audi 80 B4! As the one who used to own one (not convertible thought), I can tell you that back in 1994 there definitely wasn’t a car that could suit a Princess better. Audi with its “boxy” look and cold face up front in its every form, but mostly as a convertible, was very popular with anyone who was rich and famous especially to those with blue blood.

Late Diana Princess of Wales, mother of Prince William and Prince Henry and first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, considered by many as one of the most influential women in the 20th century used to own one of those B4 convertibles. It was in her possession since 1994 when it was bought in London until 1996 when it was sold because she got bored of it. Compared to Her Majesty’s Bentley Mulsanne which was very recently sold for £199,850, Audi is believed to worth anywhere between £50,000 to £60,000, but we all know how auctions work, if anyone gets carried away God only knows how much it can get. The seller, Silverstone Auctions, will try to transport this car to NEC Classic Motor Show Sale in Birmingham as soon as next month.

The teal green convertible beauty that can be seen in the pictures kept its original plates from the time when Diana owned it. It is said that in the period from 1994 to 1996 she traveled around 4.000 miles in it and that at this moment it has 21.412 miles on the odometer, which in kilometers is around 34.460. This particular Audi is powered by a 2.3 L five-cylinder engine that is hooked up to an automatic transmission, and by the images shown it is still in mint condition inside and out. For a car that has 22 years of wear and tear, everything looks like it just rolled off from the factory floor, from the Gomera Pearl paint finish to the Parchment leather and cream carpets.

As I previously mentioned, after Her Majesty got bored with the car, she sold it to Ian Campbell Dale. After some time in 1998, it was bought by its third owner and remained in his possession until 2013 when the current vendor purchased it (Silverstone Auctions). The sale of this magnificent ride with a lot of history, besides itself, also includes “history file containing the relevant handbooks and manuals and several good-quality photos of Diana using the car” just for additional authenticity reasons.
