Well if there is an ultimate car test than this might just be the one, or even close to it. This analysis, or comparison if you like, is done from the perspective of a middle-aged customer, the harsh reality is that every vehicle acts and drives differently in the hands of different drivers. This clash will show just how much these cars are similar in some ways but again totally different in others.
Although these have slight differences in power, you might be compelled to judge the fact that Jag brought slightly under-powered vehicle to this kind of dog fight, but throughout the comparison, you will see that the F-Type with its V6 engine isn’t that slow as you think. If you take a look at the paper, it even has more power than the Boxter S. The F-Type packs 380 PS and 460 Nm (339 lb-ft) while the Boxter S churns out healthy 349 PS and 420 Nm (309 lb-ft). The power difference is not that big but as anyone of us know even a few HP more can make a difference if you know how to use them. Porsche has something that trumps the deficiency in power segment, and that is the top speed. According to reports when maxed out it can reach 285 km/h (177 mph) while the Jag is slower for about 10 km/h (6 mph).
The same thing is when you look at the acceleration figures where the sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) Boxter S finishes in just 4.4 seconds, and the F-Type, unfortunately, trots half a second slower – 4.9 seconds. The professionals will, of course, tell you that the half second can decide a winner in almost 90% of races while a middle-aged customer may not even bother with these numbers, and decide to buy a car just because he/she liked it.
Now we come to the deciding factor, and that is almost always the price tag. Apparently, the tested version of the F-Type is considerably more expensive than the Boxter S, which means that the US buyers have to single out an extra $14,000 to purchase the Jaguar while the UK customers need an extra £16,000. Not a small difference if you ask me!
