A lot of NBA legends retired after 2015-2016 season. First, it was Kobe who called it a career, then Tim Duncan was the one to hang up his playing shoes, and it was Kevin Garnett who retired just a couple of days ago. But, his friend Paul Pierce isn’t quite ready to leave the game of basketball. Today, he wrote an article on Players Tribune in which he says this upcoming season will be his last.
“It’s time to move on from basketball”, Pierce said. “I’m at peace with retiring, but I have one more ride left. One more season. One more opportunity”.
Clippers are still one of the best teams in the Western Conference, and Pierce believes that they still have a shot at the Larry O’Brian trophy. He lifted it one time in his hall of fame career, and he wants to do it again before he rides off into the sunset.
Celtics’ legend has played 18 seasons in the NBA, and this last one will feel special. He said that he just couldn’t believe that he will be playing in each arena for the last time. Pierce wants to enjoy every single practice and bus ride this year. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to the NBA for him that is a sure thing.
Pierce will no doubt enter the Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible for consideration. His number 34 will be in the rafters of TD Garden in Boston. And can you imagine the reaction that he will get when he shows up in Beantown for one more match? His last. Priceless. And a must-watch game.
