Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, Parks and Recreation is a political sitcom which was first released in April 2009 on NBC. Daniels and Schur are also the executive producers of the series, together with Howard Klein, while Gaby Moreno and Vincent Jones composed the music. The last season of the series (Season 7) aired two years ago.
Parks and Recreation follow the life of Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler), a perky bureaucrat who is trying to make some great contribution to society. This mission of hers brings her various problems she has to deal with, mostly caused by the inflexible bureaucratic system.
This political satire was mostly well-received, though there were some mixed reviews from critics depending on the season and episode. When it first appeared, many people described it as a “carbon copy” of The Office, and others thought it was predictable and slow paced. However, there were also the ones who thought it was a breath of fresh air.
For instance, New York magazine’s Will Leitch described it like this: “The 2009–10 season of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, which followed a lukewarm six-episode run in the spring of 2009, was probably the most impressive comeback in the history of broadcast comedy. In a single season, it went from a show that was widely shrugged off as the product of talented people in the wrong project to one that made many, many lists of the best shows of the year.”
As for the seventh season, according to Rotten Tomatoes, it received universal acclaim. The audience rated the series with 4.5 out of 5 stars; on IMDb, the show also has a more than a great score of 8.6, which is based on 107,000+ user votes and 45 critics’ reviews. However, in spite of these mostly positive reactions, NBC confirmed that the seventh season of the sitcom would be its final one.
