Veteran Cowboys player, Orlando Scandrick, recently spoke about his future but the sound of it just wasn’t right. Will he be a part of the Dallas Cowboys in 2018?

Orlando Scandrick has two years left on his contract, but it seems like he’s already preparing himself for new team and organization.

“I’m prepared for whatever,” Scandrick stated. “I’m still going to play football. I’m still a good football player when I’m healthy. We’ll see what happens.”

Scandrick doesn’t know what it’s like to play for someone else rather than for the Cowboys. He joined the team as a 2008 fifth-round pick out of Boise State and has been a dependable name on the roster ever since. Scandrick was a starter in all 11 games he played this season, but he’ll have to sit out final four matches due to fractured bones in his back.

Scandrick witnessed the Cowboys’ secondary rise without him in the lineup. He predicts bright futures for rookies Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, and Xavier Woods and also for a second-year player Anthony Brown.

Due to the youngsters coming in, Scandrick simply can’t see the picture where he progresses and gets much playing time. He also emphasized how he won’t consider a diminished role.

“I’m not at the point of my career where I’m willing to just be an inactive guy or a guy that’s not a part of what’s going on and can’t help the team win,” Scandrick said. “I just want to play somewhere I can finish things out the right way.”

Scandrick’s contract earned him base salaries of $3 million and $4 million over the course of the next two seasons. Considering that fact, the Cowboys have the flexibility of choosing whether to keep him or simply move him in another separate direction. Unfortunately for the fans of Scandrick located in Dallas, he seems to prefer the latter.

He spoke of former teammates such as Terence Newman, DeMarcus Ware, and Miles Austin as veteran Cowboys who ended their careers far from Dallas. To be fair, Scandrick had nothing but words of praise for the entire organization, however, he seemed like a player ready for the next step and new challenge.

“I can’t put into words how grateful I am for this organization sticking by my side for 10 years,” Scandrick said. “I’m so grateful to the Jones family who stuck by me. I’m so grateful for everything that they did for me.

“I’m so grateful to be able to play in front of this fan base for 10 years – the ups and the downs, you know what I’m saying? Just the whole thing. It was a great experience.

“I came into this locker room when I was 21-years-old, just bright-eyed and just excited. I’m still excited about football, but I don’t know what comes next.”

Scandrick recorded 8 interceptions and 11.5 sacks in 125 career games (started in 69 of them).
