Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) has announced that starting Wednesday, i.e. 7th May, the Nokia XL smartphone will be available for sale in the APAC (Asia-Pacific) and IMEA (India, Middle East & Africa) regions. The company has come up with a range of Android based smartphones, Nokia X, of which Nokia XL is the biggest member. Nokia has confirmed on its blog that the availability of Nokia XL will start this Wednesday at a price of EUR 109.
Features of the big Android based handset
Nokia X android smartphone family comprises of three members viz. Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL smartphones of which Nokia XL is the biggest sporting a 5 inch screen while the other two are 4 inch models. Android Open Source Project (AOSP) based OS Nokia X (version 1.0) runs on the Nokia XL smartphone and this is powered by Microsoft and Nokia services.
This smartphone has an LCD display of 5-inch with WVGA resolution of 480×800 pixels and 187ppi pixel density. The phone runs on a powerful dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor that is clocked at 1GHz. It has a RAM of 768MB and an inbuilt storage capacity of 4GB, which can be expanded with the help of a microSD card up to 32GB.
The phone has a 2-megapixel front camera and rear camera of 5-megapixel with LED flash. The device can deliver talk time of 16 hours and a standby time of 720 hours as it is packed with a powerful 2000mAh battery. The color variants available in this device are White, Black, Cyan, Yellow, Bright Green and Orange.
Google maps replaced with HERE
It is said that Nokia XL will come to India with its dual SIM variant and since the device’s MWC announcement in March it has been listed on Nokia online store. The dual SIM version of this device comes preloaded with social networking apps like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Twitter Inc (YSE:TWTR), Skype, Viber and WeChat. Maps that were Google based have been replaced with HERE map service from Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK). Applications such as MixRadio (30million+ songs accessible), Nokia browser and few more applications will be there. The users are not restricted to using only the inbuilt apps, but can also download Android apps from app stores of third parties, as well.
