Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) last week announced that if anyone wishes to use its technology in good faith then they can do so and the company will not bring against them any patent lawsuits as informed by the CEO Elon Musk. With this announcement many of the world’s larger car manufacturers have their interest piqued. The Financial Times has recently informed that both Nissan and BMW are willing to have talks with Tesla for the development of charging stations with joint efforts, which could be used by the vehicles manufactured by all the three giants.
Collaboration to enhance innovation
A report from Financial Times citing undisclosed sources, say that for the purpose of crafting up some universal vehicle charging standards, both Nissan and BMW are interested in working with Tesla. One of the sources told FT, “It is obviously clear that everyone would benefit if there was a far more simple way for everyone to charge their cars.”
It is possible that the said partnership involves the companies using Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s proprietary charging setup in both companies’ cars while it is also possible that the collective brain trust of all three companies together will be used to come up with an inventive way to charge electric vehicles quickly.
Mixed opinions on Tesla
The announcement made by Musk is appreciated by few people as they feel that this will help the electric vehicle market grow to new heights. Few others disapproved the move by Tesla as according to them, this was a sign of weakness of the company. Critics argue that this was a very critical shift by Tesla and after this it will be even more difficult for the company to make an individual identity, distinct from others.
About this, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has to say that that soon the figure of 100 million per year will be touched by the annual new vehicle production and global fleet is 2 billion cars approximately. Tesla says that is not possible for them to build electric cars at such a fast pace that addresses the carbon crisis. At the same time this also means that the market for cars is enormous. Musk believes that the gasoline cars produced in huge quantities are the major competition for the company and not the electric cars from other manufacturers.
“We believe that Tesla, other companies making electric cars, and the world would all benefit from a common, rapidly-evolving technology platform,” said Musk.
