9Tim Burton wanted to make it a TV special
It is common knowledge that ‘The Night Before Christmas’ found its basis and inspiration in the stop-motion holiday classics made by Rankin/Bass Productions. That company was founded by Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass. Among their stop-motion TV specials we saw Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with Burl Ives, 1971’s Here Comes Peter Cottontail with Danny Kaye, and 1979’s Jack Frost with Buddy Hackett. Burton initially imagined The Nightmare Before Christmas as something similar to those shows.
