Borderlands 3 is one of those games that players can’t wait to get the hold of, but it still remains unconfirmed. The previous iterations of the game have been spot on, and developers managed to attract a lot of fans, which are now patiently waiting for the confirmation of the Borderlands 3. The second installment was launched three years after the original, and we only have rumors and some minor details about the next game in the series.
Gearbox Software is the developer of this franchise, and it has teased a new Borderlands a few times this year, but could that be the game all of us are waiting for? Now, we will go through all the rumors and speculations and try to get a glimpse of Borderlands 3.
Rumors and Hints
There is no doubt that everyone is looking forward to the new chapter, but ever since the Borderlands 2 was released five years ago, there have been no concrete details about the next game. In 2014 the sequel was launched in the form of a spinoff by 2K Australia which follows Handsome Jack and him becoming a villain. Considering that so many years have passed without literally any details about the new game, some believe that there will be no continuation at all.
In 2014, founder and the CEO of Gearbox Randy Pitchford said that they were not developing the next installment and he also added that Borderlands 3 would have to be awe-inspiring. “We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don’t know what it is yet.” One year later at PAX 2015, he talked about the new Borderlands, and he mentioned that they would start with the development soon. The game is supposed to be made for the Xbox One and PS4, as the company began to gather a team of developers for the sequel after that announcement.
Not much time has passed, and we started to hear rumors about the release date, but there have been some problems in the process of development, and one of the biggest was when the franchise director Matt Armstrong abandoned the project and left two years ago. Then, the Gearbox said that Borderlands 3 would be the next game after the release of Battleborn, which was launched in May last year. We expect to hear new details at The Game Awards this year, and hopefully, we will get at least the exact year when the game will be released.
Gameplay and Features
Enemy Upgrades – The Borderlands 2 was definitely a good game, but Gearbox will do something to upgrade the enemies. According to the rumors, the Borderlands 3 will take place in an open world, which gives a lot of opportunities to create new destinations which you can explore and unlock as you progress. Because of that, new enemies will be added so that the players are not bored. Furthermore, the developer may also upgrade those already existing so that even when the gamer encounters the familiar foes, the battle will be unpredictable.
Weapons – The weapon choice in the game is really fascinating, but that doesn’t mean that it cannot be better. That is why the sequel can come with new weaponry besides the rocket launchers and machine guns. Even those that already exist in the game may be upgraded, or different versions can be added.
Characters – It is possible that the main protagonists from the Borderlands 2 will not return and they might be replaced by some new characters. Some key characters from Borderlands 1 were seen as quest-givers in the next installment which was pretty cool. Be that as it may, the key characters in the new game could look more real or interact more.
Graphics – The graphics of the series is unique, and the previous two titles were exactly what the fans expected. Considering that it has been five years since the last game, we hope that the new one will get better graphics. Even though this will likely happen, it will still come with that comic book feel, which is really good.
Borderlands 3 Release Date
According to what we know, the Gearbox started working on the new game in 2015, but there have been some problems when the series creator left the same year. The development of the sequel appears to be slow because it has already been five years and we don’t have concrete details.
