Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has another reason to be happy because its influence continues to expand. The company recently received ten nominations for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), thus receiving the highest number of nominees among its competitors.
The content streaming firm received nominations from different categories including five nominations from its Original series offerings. Some of the shows nominated include; Orange is The New Black, Daredevil, A Very Murray Christmas, House of Cards, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos expressed his gratitude to the SAG on behalf of the firm for helping them celebrate the company’s first movie, ‘Beasts of No Nation’ with style through the nominations. He also stated that the company was happy that its shows have been received positively.
Sarandos also expressed the company’s gratitude to the impressive performers and visionary storytellers for the opportunity to work together. There is a high chance that the same shows will receive nominations for other awards such as the Golden Globes. Though Netflix is relatively new to the TV industry, the company has been at the forefront of the disruptive technology that has changed the way people watch TV.
The company together with its streaming rivals such as Hulu has been highly successful and the original content has played a huge part in their successful strategy.
Though the company was lucky enough to receive nominations for various shows, it received heavy competition from popular shows such as HBO’s Game of Thrones and Homeland from Showtime.
The two were nominated together with Netflix’s House of Cards. As for Netflix’s streaming competition, they were not able to perform as well in the SAG nominations. Prime from Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) only managed a nomination for its show, Transparent. Hulu did not receive any nominations.
As for the movies category, Netflix managed to acquire two nominations for the movie Beast of No Nation. Idris Alba’s supporting role in the film was acknowledged. The SAG members will vote on the nominees, and the award winners will be announced at the live awards ceremony that will be aired on TBS and TNT on January 30.
