Just like the great majority of Japanese anime series, Musaigen no Phantom World is also an adaptation of the light novel series of the same title. The story is written by Sōichirō Hatano and illustrated by Shirabi, while the anime is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara and written by Fumihiko Shimo. It debuted in January 2016, so we can say it is still early to expect a new batch of episodes.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the storyline, in a nutshell, “the story revolves around Haruhiko Ichijo and his friends in the Phantom-hunting club of Hosea Academy, a private school for children with special abilities to seal phantoms, and their everyday life and struggles, dealing with phantoms.” As you can see, this is a fantasy adventure series which follows people’s lives in an alternative world in the future.
Needless to say, ghosts and phantoms are an inevitable part of such story, but we also get to meet Haruhiko Ichijo (voiced by Hiro Shimono), the main character, who fights the evil forces. Haruhiko has special powers which enable him to summon or seal phantoms by drawing them in a sketchbook. He is also the one who appears as a narrator in a great number of episodes, as he provides brief explanations when needed.
Another important character who also possesses special powers and helps Haruhiko in his battles is Mai Kawakami (voiced by Sumire Uesaka), a second-year high school student. Her power lies in the ability to channel elemental energies through her body, e.g. fire from her heart or earth from her spleen.
Musaigen no Phantom World Season 2 Release Date
All in all, as MyAnimeList put it, “in a world where the real and surreal intertwine, Musaigen no Phantom World follows the adventures of a group of friends as they handle the everyday troubles caused by phantoms.” Based on this, we can say for sure that there must be enough material for new episodes; we just need to be patient and wait for the official announcement. The Season 2 release date will probably be set for sometime this year.
