His rise began with an Olympic gold medal which he won in Rome in the 1960s. Four years later, he became the world’s heavyweight champion for the first time, defeating Sonny Liston as a 22-year-old. He became the first boxer to be the world champion three times (1964-1967, 1974-1978, 1978-1979). Unfortunately, Ali suffered from Parkinson’s disease, but he did not allow the illness to take away his spirit. He fought with this disease for a long time, and he even called it his longest bout, which ended up to be the one that ultimately he could not win.
