This year’s Oscar nominations are in, and much to all Disney fans’ delight, their recently released animated movie “Moana” has received two Academy Award nominations. It is nominated for Best Animated Feature and for Best Original Song with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “How Far I’ll Go.”

The nomination for Best Original Song is not only of great importance for the movie but for Miranda, as well. He has already won an Emmy, two Grammys, and three Tonys, so if he wins an Oscar now, he will complete his EGOT and thus become the youngest person ever to get EGOT title. This prestigious title is for those who win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, which are the entertainment’s most important awards. Not only would he be the youngest EGOT winner, but he would join the legendary Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg and Moreno.

“Moana” is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, two directors who are known for their joint work, as they also collaborated for The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992) and Hercules (1997). The movie features voices of Nicole Scherzinger, Jemaine Clement, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, and Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson in the lead roles. Cravalho made her voice acting debut in this movie in the role of Moana, while The Rock borrowed his voice to Maui, a legendary demigod.

Johnson is particularly excited about the Oscar nominations. He posted on his Twitter: “Ahoo! Tons of gratitude in the Johnson home for our Moana Oscar nom! Our team worked very hard to breathe (and sing) life into our story.”

Miranda’s “How Far I’ll Go” will compete for Oscar against songs from three other movies: La La Land, Trolls, and Jim: The James Foley Story. Also, in the run for Best Animated Feature, it is up against “Zootopia” another Disney movie.
