Mitsubishi has brought the Eclipse moniker back to life, and it turned it into an SUV, and now, the carmaker plans to revive another iconic vehicle. The car in the photo is e-Evolution, which is an electric SUV, but unlike the Eclipse that is a production model, the new Evo is going to remain just a concept. It is characterized by unusual design as we could saw it presented in Tokyo.
We don’t know the specific details at this point, but what we do know is that three electric motors power this car and they produce a lot of torque. One of the motors is positioned at the front axle, and two of them are out in the rear, whereas the carmaker promises “smooth and powerfully responsive performance.” Under the floor, a large battery pack has been placed, and it doesn’t just provide the range, but it also lowers the center of gravity.
This Mitsubishi e-Evolution comes with electrically operated brake calipers which deliver high stopping power and provide quicker response than the regular hydraulic calipers. The Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept is equipped with the suicide doors which makes it easy to access the huge cabin that has four individual seats. There is a wide central display that is sided by two small screens which show the driver everything caught by side rearview cameras. The steering wheel looks cool whereas, in front of it, we can see a fully digital cluster.
We don’t know whether Mitsubishi actually plans to roll out this e-Evolution since they have a lot on their plate – the company is currently working on six new models and five facelifts. There is a possibility that we will see the revived Evolution model, but it will not happen anytime soon, not in the next six years, at the least.
