We have some good news for those of you who are getting impatient about the “Minecraft” console updates. Mojang has finally officially confirmed that the updates for PlayStation, Xbox One, and Wii will be delivered in December. Some items from the PC edition will be added (e.g. Elytra and End Cities). The Minecraft: Console Edition will be available as a free patch on the platforms mentioned above.
Here’s what Mojang has revealed about the new features:
Elytra! Soar through The End on your freshly-minted insectoid glider, or, if you’d rather practice first, why not put your aerobatic skills to the test by generating the world with the new Amplified Terrain option?
End Cities, replete with End Ships, Chorus Plants, Chorus Flowers and Purpur blocks. Not all is as it seems, however – some blocks may conceal Shulkers, limpet-like enemies who fire homing rockets. Take a hit, and you’ll take damage and experience something new, too: levitation! Elytra are essential to avoid an uncomfortable landing.
You can now use Dragon’s Breath to create Lingering Potions – throwable potions that leave a bubbling slick behind, ideal for ensnaring unwary pursuers.
These three features were first delivered for PC edition in February when Minecraft 1.9 patch, the Combat Update, was released.
Elytra allows the player to glide and it is equipped in the chest plate slot. In order to initiate flying, the player has to jump in midair. As for the possible damage, the players are safe unless they hit the ground at high speed.
End cities generate in the outer islands of The End and consist of castle structures. They are accessible via gateway portal, but you first must kill the Ender Dragon.
For the time being, this is all Mojang wants to reveal about the upcoming update.
Minecraft Combat Update
When it comes to the Combat Update, it is worth mentioning that it enables players to handle the weapons in a different way, more precisely, to dual wield. Furthermore, the update added an attack cooldown, so the players can no longer swing their swords and shoot arrows continually. Another new item that prevents them from doing so is the shield they carry.
There are also new ways to attack (the sweep attack and crushing blow alternate attack), while the axes are upgraded and now they are stronger weapon than swords, i.e. they inflict more damage. However, their attack speed is rather low. Finally, bows and arrows are upgraded as well, and there is a new Spectral Arrow.
All in all, we are still waiting for Mojang to officially confirm all the new features of the upcoming Minecraft: Console Edition. Until then, you can visit their official wiki page for more information on PC upgrades and, of course, follow us for more details.
